It is a kind of spell, the one that MUN activities create, which captures you and turns your fear to approach an unknown world into a never ending passion. When you are in Model United Nations, you are in. You begin to appease your appetite for this experience attending conference after conference, then you come to a point when this can't be enough and you need to organize your own Model United Nation.
This is the origin of CFMUNESCO.
For more than eight years, the Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono has been sending its students to several conferences worldwide, representing a high number of delegations and gaining lots of results and praises for their preparation and competence. The students of the Convitto have demonstrated a dynamic and pro-active attitude towards these activities, which led some of, them to develop the idea to organise their own Model United Nations Conference. A small group of these students expressed such desire to the headmaster of the school, who immediately decided to support them.
CFMUNESCO is the first Cividale del Friuli Model United Nations UNESCO and allows high school students from the age of 14 to 19 from all over the world to play the role of diplomats, simulating the United Nations’ debates and their universal aim of peace and security.
CFMUNESCO consists in three days of intensive debates, from 13th to 15th of November 2014, and is hosted by the Convitto Nazionale, where a qualified staff is ready to help the delegates and their advisors.
CFMUNESCO is a simulation of five committees: the Security Council, the Disarmament and International Security Committee, the United Nations Human Rights Council and the Environment Commission and finally the UNESCO. The latter is the special committee of our Conference and was chosen in order to emphasize the link between the city of Cividale and the UN body, which classified Cividale del Friuli part of its World Heritage List in June 2011.
All the topics debated during the Conference are under a common denominator, as shown by the main theme of CFMUNESCO: To Protect and Preserve, which is one of the main objectives of the United Nations and, particularly, of the UNESCO.
This Model United Nations, one of the few conferences in Italy, intends to give to all the participants the outstanding opportunity to experience the world of diplomacy and to be part of an international and multicultural setting in one of the most picturesque Italian Cities, internationally recognized for its historical, cultural and artistic relevance. All participants to the Conference will have the opportunity to discover Cividale del Friuli with its unique coalescence of Roman, Lombard and Medieval features.
We are looking forward to your participation, which will make the CFMUNESCO an unforgettable experience for all of us.
CFMUNESCO Executive Team
Hi. I am Matteo Ferluga. I attend the last year of High School at the Convitto Nazionale “Paolo Diacono”. I speak Italian, English, Slovenian and I understand a bit of German. The first time I heard about the word "MUN" was from my older sister. She was one of the first students from our school that participated in an MUN. I was curious about her experience, so I decided to try it as well. I took part to two conferences as a delegate, and during the first edition of the CFMUNESCO I was the President of the Disarmament Committee. I have been chosen as the new Secretary General, and I am really proud of it. I can't wait to meet both new and expert delegates during the days of the conference. My dream is to make this edition of the CFMUNESCO great for everyone. I hope that you will have a lot of fun while debating in our small town. I will work as hard as I can to make this possible. See you soon!
Deputy Secretary General
Hi guys! I' m Yara and I'm 18. I have always lived in San Giovanni al Natisone, a small town fifteen minuts away from Cividale. I attend the fifth class of the Language High School of the "Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono", so I speak English, German and I have a basic knowledge of Russian. This MUN is going to be the second for me, as I took part in the last edition of CFMUNESCO as a delegate. As a memeber of the organizing team, I have the role of the Deputy Secretary General, but during the conference I'll be one of the two Co-Chairs of the UNESCO Committee. I'm looking forward to seeing you in November to share with you this wonderful experience!
President of the Security Council
Hello! I am Anna and I am 18 years old. I am currently living in Bibione, a town on the seaside (really close to Venice), but during the school week I live in the boarding school here in Cividale Del Friuli.
I speak Italian, fluent English and I also have a basic knowledge of German. I have always been interested on international topics and I find discussing about global issues very useful and fun. I have done many international projects and I have always found them very stimulating and helpful to better understand the world we live in. I took part in two different MUN conferences, two years ago in Dublin and last year in Warsaw: they were both fantastic experiences! In addiction, I have studied three months in the city of Vlore, in Albania, because I was selected for a European Union project named KEPASS.
Moreover I attend a scientific High school, where I study subjects such as (among the others) math, physics and science, that are very exciting for me.
I am honoured to take part in CFMUNESCO 2015 as the president of the Security Council, this job is an exciting challenge for me and I can’t wait to start this new brilliant experience!
President of the UNESCO Committee
Hi everybody! My name is Martina, and I attend the fourth year of the Scientific High School at the Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono in Cividale del Friuli. I am involved in many school projects, but I’ve always paid particular attention to the MUN, because knowing global issues and trying to solve them is a fun and interesting way of sharing three days with people, until then, unknown.
I took part in three MUN conferences around Europe: HMUN in London, BCNMUN in Barcelona and the first edition of the CFMUNESCO. Seeing my hometown full of young people from all over the world, determined to express their own ideas and to cooperate with each other was absolutely incredible. I participated as a delegate, but I already knew that I wanted to apply as a Chair in the following edition.
This will be a totally different way of approaching a Model United Nations for me, but I will do my best to make the UNESCO committee the most active and productive one. I am the youngest President Chair of the 2015 edition, but my experience and my fluent English will make the UNESCO Committee an enjoyable moment of fruitful debates and exchange of ideas.
President of the Disarmament Committee
Hello everybody! My name is Elena and I’m Italian, but my dad comes from Austria. I’m attending the last year of the Liceo Classico Paolo Diacono, where I also study Ancient Greek and Latin, among other subjects. Although I have always lived in Cividale, I love travelling a lot, meeting new people and speaking different languages. I fluently speak English and I’m currently studying German and Modern Greek. I’m a curious person and I love discussing international topics, being constantly updated with worldwide news. For this reason I would like to study Law at University. In the last two years I took part in two MUN conferences as a delegate in the Disarmament committee in the BCNMUN 2013 in Barcelona and in the UNESCO committee in the CFMUNESCO 2014 here in Cividale. This year I will be the President of the Disarmament committee for the first time and I am really proud of it, because I have always been interested in issues related to weapons, wars, illicit trades and crimes. I am sure that having such an important role will be a great opportunity for my personal growth and I will do my best in order to create a challenging and exciting atmosphere in my committee. Dear delegates, I’m determined to make you all enthusiastic and actively involved in the debates of this second edition of the CFMUNESCO!
President of the Environment Committee
Hello everyone! My name is Morgana and I am 18 years old, I'm attending the last year of the Scientific High School at the Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono. I took part in two MUN conferences as a delegate: SAIMUN in Dublin representing South Africa in the Health and Youth Committee, and TBSMUN in Warsaw as the delegate of Russia in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. In the first edition of CFMUNESCO I was a member of the press staff, thanks to this I could see an MUN conference from a different point of view. I think that MUNs are really exiting and useful experiences which can make us think about important world affairs. CFMUNESCO 2015 is going to be my first experience as a chair and I hope to live up to this role having fruitful and exciting discussions with all the delegates talking about current issues about the environment. See you in Cividale!
President of the Human Rights Committee
Hi everyone! My name is Arianna Zingale and I'm a student in Classical Studies at the “Convitto Nazionale
Paolo Diacono”, the hosting school of the second edition of CFMUNESCO. The most characteristic subjects provided by my course of study are ancient Greek and Latin. I will be the chair of the Human Rights committee, because defending human rights is something I feel really passionate about, and I'm
particularly concerned about all the violations of these unalienable rights occurring around the world. Moreover, it will certainly be a challenging and stimulating experience, since I've never chaired a committee before, nor have I been a delegate in the Human Rights committee. However, my previous
experiences as a delegate include BCNMUN in Barcelona, the first edition of CFMUNESCO and TBSMUN in Warsaw. The Human Rights committee is always very popular among delegates. I'm expecting lots of you to join! As we're foremost citizens of the world, we should try to be more united than divided, shouldn't we? Stay tuned!
Head of the Staff and Security
Hi everyone! My name is Federica, I am 18 years old and I attend the 5th year of the Scientific High School at the "Convitto Nazionale Paolo Diacono". I was born and always have lived in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, an area in north-eastern Italy, so I speak Italian, along with fluent English and basic German and Slovenian. Unfortunately last years's CFMUNESCO has been the only MUN I've participated to, but I have to say that last November's experience, in which I took part as an admin, has been really interesting and exciting!
I will participate at this year's conference as the Head of Admin Staff and Security. I am glad this position has been offered me, so I am looking forward to seeing you all this winter!
